The RCEDT has given a grant to the Holland-based foundation, which was founded by Kalkman, who turned to golf after seeing his dreams of becoming a professional footballer ended after being diagnosed with cancer at the age of 19.
Kalkman, who was a promising junior footballer and played alongside Dutch great Marco Van Basten in the Dutch national junior side from the age of 14-19, was told he had bone cancer in his right leg and was given only six month to live.
But his life and sporting career were rescued by the use of a new and experimental operating technique where the affected bone was replaced by an 'inward prosthesis'.
